How to export SVG from Canva (Pro)
- Open Share → Download Top-right of the editor. The file-type dropdown lists SVG for Pro/Teams/Education accounts.
- Choose SVG and options Tick “Transparent background” if your design shouldn’t ship with a white rectangle. Select specific pages for multi-page designs.
- Download and inspect Open the file in our free code editor – check for embedded raster images and flattened text before relying on it.
- Optimize Canva exports verbose markup; one Optimize click typically cuts the size substantially.
No Pro? Your three options, honestly ranked
- 1. Use the source files: if the design is built from SVGs you uploaded, you already own better vector files than Canva will export. Edit them free in our Studio.
- 2. PNG → trace: download as PNG (free) at the largest size, then vectorize with our PNG to SVG converter. For flat-color designs the result is excellent; for photo-heavy designs it won’t be.

What actually survives a Canva SVG export
Shapes and solid colors export cleanly. Text converts to outlined paths (identical look, no longer editable as text). Shadows, blurs, and most effects flatten or rasterize. Photos remain raster, embedded inside the SVG – meaning a “vector” export of a photo collage is mostly pixels in a vector wrapper. SVG export earns its keep for logo-ish, flat, shape-based designs; for everything else, high-resolution PNG serves better.
