What “image to SVG” actually does

Raster images store a grid of colored pixels; SVG stores shapes – paths, fills, curves – as math. A converter can’t just change the file extension: it must trace the pixels, detecting regions of similar color and fitting smooth Bézier curves around them. The output is a genuinely different kind of file: resolution-independent, editable shape by shape, and usually far smaller.

That difference is why vectorization is transformative for the right images (a logo becomes infinitely scalable) and merely artistic for the wrong ones (a photo becomes a posterized illustration). For raster-to-raster conversion or photo workflows, you want an image editor, not a vectorizer.
