Why do so many downloads end up as WebP?

WebP is Google’s modern image format – roughly 30% smaller than equivalent JPGs and PNGs – so most large websites now serve it by default to save bandwidth. When you right-click and save an image, you get whatever the server sent, which is increasingly .webp.

That’s fine for viewing but awkward for design work: older versions of Photoshop, Illustrator, and Cricut Design Space don’t accept WebP at all. Converting to SVG solves the compatibility problem and upgrades the graphic to resolution-independent vector form at the same time.
