Accepts PNG, ICO, GIF, BMP, and WebP icons. Small icons (16–64px) trace best at High detail.

ICO files supported

Browsers decode .ico favicons natively, so you can trace an existing favicon back into editable vector form – useful when the original SVG is long gone.

Fix blurry UI icons

A 32px PNG icon stretched to 128px looks terrible. Traced to SVG, it renders crisply at every size your interface needs.

Or start from clean vectors

Our Studio has 2,400+ professionally drawn SVG icons with customizable stroke, color, and background – often faster than tracing.

STEP BY STEP

How to convert an icon to SVG

  1. Upload the icon file PNG, ICO, GIF, BMP, or WebP – drop it in the converter above.
  2. Set detail to High Small icons have few pixels; High detail captures every corner. B&W mode suits single-color glyphs.
  3. Download or copy Save the .svg or copy the markup straight into your HTML/CSS.

Tracing vs redrawing: an honest note on tiny icons

A 16×16 favicon contains only 256 pixels – there’s a limit to how much geometry a tracer can infer from that. Icons of 48px and larger trace well; below that, expect slightly organic edges where the original was geometric.

For common UI symbols (arrows, search, settings, user), it’s often faster to take a pixel-perfect vector from our free SVG icon collection and customize it in the Studio – stroke width, color, corner radius, background shape – than to trace a degraded copy. Use tracing when the icon is custom artwork that exists nowhere else.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can I convert a .ico favicon to SVG?

Yes – browsers decode ICO natively, so drop it straight in. The largest size stored in the ICO is used for tracing.

Why does my 16px icon trace with wobbly edges?

At 16px there are very few pixels to infer shapes from. Try High detail, or rebuild the icon from our free vector library for geometric perfection.

How do I go the other way – SVG to ICO?

Use our SVG to ICO converter to generate a multi-size favicon from any SVG.

Are the library icons really free?

Yes – all 2,400+ icons in the Studio are free for personal and commercial use, no attribution required.
