The brand-recovery workflow
- Audit your sources Gather every copy: website header, press kit, email signatures, social avatars, invoices, merch photos. Pick the largest, cleanest, ideally transparent one.

Our printer needs “vector format” by tomorrow – will this work?
For flat-color logos, yes: trace, clean, export – most printers accept SVG, or produce a vector PDF in five more minutes. Check the result at high zoom first; that’s what the printer will see.
Is the traced logo legally still our logo?
Yes – vectorizing your own logo is format conversion of your own property. Your trademark rights are unaffected by who traced the file.
The original had gradients – what now?
Tracing posterizes gradients into bands. Either accept the flat-band version (often fine at small sizes), have a designer rebuild the gradient over the traced shapes, or use the flat variant for cutting/embroidery where gradients can’t reproduce anyway.
Should we also recover EPS/AI versions?
Derive what vendors ask for from the SVG master: EPS via Inkscape, .ai via any Illustrator seat. Most modern vendors take SVG or PDF directly.
