JPEG vs JPG: there is no difference

JPEG stands for Joint Photographic Experts Group, the committee that created the standard in 1992. Early Windows systems required three-letter file extensions, so .jpeg was shortened to .jpg. Both extensions describe byte-for-byte identical files, and every tool – including this one – treats them the same.

What actually matters for vectorization is the content of the image and its compression level. A lightly-compressed JPEG of a logo traces nearly as well as a PNG; a heavily-compressed meme-quality image needs B&W mode and a lower detail setting to come out clean.

Scan at 300 DPI or higher – more pixels give the tracer smoother curves to follow
Use flat, even lighting when photographing paper to avoid shadows being traced as shapes
