How to convert PNG to SVG for Cricut

Drop in the PNG Transparent-background PNGs give the cleanest results; white backgrounds are fine in B&W mode (white is ignored).
Choose layers One-color cut: keep B&W. Layered design: Color mode, which builds one path set per color.
Download and upload Save the .svg, then in Design Space: Upload → Upload Image → Add to Canvas.
Verify the layers panel Each expected layer should be listed separately. Resize to your project dimensions and Make It.

Why not just upload the PNG directly?

You can – Design Space accepts PNGs as “print then cut” images or auto-traces them into cut files. But the auto-trace is basic: it follows pixel edges literally (jagged curves), struggles with anti-aliased edges (fuzzy outlines become wobbling paths), and merges details it can’t separate. The two-minute detour through a real tracer produces noticeably smoother cuts, especially on script fonts and curved designs.

There’s also the scaling problem: a 500px PNG stretched to a 20-inch design tells Design Space to trace enlarged, blurry pixels. The SVG you make here scales first as math, so a tiny source can still cut at banner size cleanly.
